The Force Is With Lego's May Releases

The latest entry to the Lego Art series takes a step back and centers you in the cosmos, with a massive artistic recreation of our own galaxy—and even a tiny little indicator point to show where our corner of the universe is in it. $200, available from May 18 here.

Not exactly a new set, but three recent Lego City sets released as part of Lego’s Space celebrations—the Space Construction Mech, Interstellar Spaceship, and Space Hoverbike—get bundled together in a new collection for maximum Space hijinks. $32, available here.

The latest NASA set lets you build the landing pad and Artemis rocket launch system, including a multistage rocket, two solid-fuel boosters, and a displayable replica of the ESA Orion spacecraft. $260, available here.

The latest blind-packaged minifigure series carries on the space celebrations, with figures all themed around the different eras of Lego Space, from Blacktron to contemporary astronauts, and then some. $5 per pack, available here.

Last but by no means least on the space front—and perfect to go with a few of those collectible minifigures—are two buildable alien packs to give you a litany of sci-fi flora and fauna to explore. Available here and here, $15 each.

Before we get into the big movie tie-in sets of the month, there’s actually a couple more licensed themes debuting in May. The bigger of the two is a series of new sets based on Despicable Me 4, including a trio of playsets and the above, absolutely petrifying brick-built model of Gru himself. Here’s the rundown.

Also in the world of movie sets is an inspired little Inside Out 2 release—not a traditional playset, but an artistic display of the myriad moods of the film, on rotatable cubes to display, as, well, your mood fancies. $35, available here.

Okay, now we’re into the stuff you’ve been waiting for. The annual major collector’s set for Star Wars Day 2024 is none other than an update to one of the original Ultimate Collector Series ships: the TIE Interceptor. Aside from a massive model of the starfighter itself, the set comes with a technical systems read out display stand, and a TIE pilot minifigure. And even a Mouse Droid! $230, available here.

It’s not just 25 years of Lego Star Wars in 2024, but of course, May marks 25 years of The Phantom Menace—so tons of this month’s Star Wars sets are inspired by the first prequel movie. First up is the latest scene diorama build, in the form of Anakin and Sebulba’s neck-and-neck podrace in the Boonta Eve Classic. $80, available here.

Rolling into action is a new Trade Federation Droideka model—quite literally, as you can transform the destroyer droid into its travel mode! $65, available here.

Merging both the celebrations of 25 years of Phantom Menace and Lego Star Wars in general is a new set inspired by Qui-Gon Jinn’s first encounter with Darth Maul on Tatooine. As well as Maul’s ship and speeder, the set comes minifigures of Qui-Gon, Maul, Anakin, and a bonus, entirely unrelated Saw Gerrera—his first Lego Minifigure, as part of Lego’s special 25th anniversary bonuses. $70, available here.

Moving away briefly from The Phantom Menace—but only kind of! Ahmed Best is a different kind of star here, this time not as Jar Jar, but Jedi Master Kelleran Beq, his character from the Jedi Temple Challenges game show and a little series called The Mandalorian. Recreating the moment he saves Grogu during Order 66, as well as a speeder the set includes Kelleran, Grogu, and two Clone Troopers. $30, available here.

Rounding out the new Star Wars sets are two additions to Lego’s buildable chibi-figure series, Brickheadz. Releasing as a standalone is a new Commander Cody, but as part of the Phantom Menace celebrations, a new pack pulls together 6 Brickheadz of Darth Maul, Queen Amidala, Anakin (in his podracing helmet), Captain Panaka, Jar Jar Binks, and Qui-Gon Jinn.

Although not technically new releases, through to May 5 there are several bonus Star Wars sets available for purchases over a certain dollar amount, whether you’re a member of Lego’s “Insider” rewards system or just buying a lot of Star Wars Lego. Here’s the breakdown:
