    What's the story

Netflix has officially announced the renewal of its popular K-drama series, Bloodhounds, for a second season. The thrilling show, which debuted nearly a year ago on June 9, 2023, follows the narrative of two rebellious boxers battling against the country's illegal money lenders. According to Sports Seoul, lead actors Lee Sang-yi and Woo Do-hwan are confirmed to reprise their roles for the upcoming season.

    Cast confirmation

Filming to commence in the latter half of 2024

The portal confirmed the return of lead actors Woo and Lee, stating, "Lead actors Woo Do-hwan and Lee Sang-yi who gained great popularity by showing off their bromance in Season 1, will also join Season 2." The filming for the second season is reportedly scheduled to commence in the latter half of 2024, indicating a potential release on streaming platforms by early 2025.

    Cast doubts

Meanwhile, uncertainty surrounds Kim Sae-ron's return

The participation of another lead actor Kim Sae-ron in the upcoming season remains uncertain. During the production of the first season, Kim's DUI (Driving Under the Influence) incident led to significant criticism and her early exit from the series. The 23-year-old actor portrayed the role of Cha Hyun-joo, Tae-ho's successor and foster granddaughter. To note, her first adult lead role was in the K-drama Secret Healer (2016).

    Series triumph

'Bloodhounds' achieved global success despite initial hurdles

Despite the controversy surrounding Kim, Bloodhounds S01 quickly gained popularity, securing the number two spot on Netflix's worldwide non-English Top 10 category. It eventually claimed the top spot due to its rapid rise in viewership. It garnered an impressive 27.97M viewing hours within just three days of its release on the streaming giant. The show is helmed by Kim Joo-hwan (Midnight Runners).
