Threads users can now earn money but there's a catch

    What's the story

Meta has launched an exclusive bonus program for creators on its social media app, Threads. The initiative, first announced in March and currently available only to US creators, aims to boost user engagement. According to TechCrunch, the bonus criteria are individually tailored for each creator, and are contingent upon maintaining a public Threads profile, and adhering to Meta's specific guidelines.

    Condition

    Details of the bonus program

Meta's bonus program is based on the number of views a post gets, and the frequency of posts shared by creators. As per Meta, "In some cases, you must earn a minimum amount to receive a bonus payout. If you don't reach the minimum amount, you will not receive any bonus payout, but you may be invited to participate in another bonus opportunity in the future." The company has also hinted at potentially expanding this program internationally.

    Criteria

Specific standards for posts to qualify for bonus

To qualify for the bonus, posts on Threads must meet certain standards. Each post should attract at least 2,500 views. Posts with copyrighted material, brand partnerships, those lacking text, or those with artificially inflated views are not eligible. Additionally, content shared on Threads should not contain watermarks from competing platforms like TikTok and YouTube.

    Result

Earnings monitoring and potential impact on Threads

Creators can track their earnings on their professional dashboard, and may need to accumulate a certain amount before cashing out. The launch of this bonus program could potentially stimulate interest in Threads, particularly among prominent Instagram creators who could monetize their follower base through this initiative. However, Meta has clarified that its bonus program for Threads is temporary, with no clear indication of its duration.
