    What's the story

Bumble, the women-centric dating app, is set to introduce a series of enhancements in its upcoming app relaunch. Among these is the "Opening Move" feature, specifically designed to simplify the messaging process for women. This innovative feature allows women to draft an initial message for their matches, eliminating the need to create unique messages for each new connection. The benefits of this feature also extend to non-binary and same-gender pairings.

    Experience

    Bumble's response to user feedback

Senior Product Manager at Bumble, Dara Alsulayman, explained the rationale behind the new feature. She stated, "We recognize that it can sometimes be burdensome to start a chat every single time." The company developed this feature in response to user feedback, aiming to make initiating conversations easier for its members. Alsulayman also hinted at future enhancements for dynamic Opening Moves, which would allow users to craft various types of introductory lines.

    Success

'Opening Move' feature shows promising results in trials

The Opening Move feature was tested in several markets, including New Zealand and Australia. According to the company's press release, this feature resulted in increased response rates and extended conversations during its trial phase. This suggests that the new feature could potentially enhance user engagement on the platform. The company is optimistic about its wider implementation following these successful trials.

    App enhancements

Bumble expands "Intentions" badges and introduces new features

In addition to the Opening Move feature, Bumble has expanded its "Intentions" badges, and introduced a new Interests section. The updated Intentions badges now cover more specific dating goals such as "fun, casual dates," "intimacy without commitment," "life partner," and "ethical non-monogamy." The Interests section allows users to express support for up to three causes or communities.

    Design overhaul

Bumble unveils fresh logo and updated app design

To mark its 10th anniversary, Bumble revealed a new logo and updated app design. The revamped look features bold fonts and exudes a contemporary vibe. Alsulayman commented that, "[The new design] feels a lot more in line with what our users have been asking for." This redesign is part of Bumble's efforts to attract younger users who are increasingly feeling overwhelmed by dating apps.
