50 Years Old Tawny Port joins Graham’s portfolio

Graham’s Port has released its new 50 Years Old Tawny Port, which joins the 40 Years Old in the Graham’s Aged Tawny Collection.

 

Graham’s Port was acquired by Symington in 1970, making the 50-year-old port one of the first wines produced by Symington under the Graham’s label. The blend includes a CAS Reserve wine from 1969, set aside by Peter Symington to mark current master blender Charles Symington’s birth. The CAS Reserve is blended with wines from 1970 and 1982. 

 

Charles Symington, head winemaker and master blender for Symington, said: “This 50 Years Old Tawny Port is of particular significance to us as the blend is comprised of some of the first wines made by our family after the acquisition of Graham’s in 1970. 

 

“Blending a wine that was originally set aside by my father to commemorate the year in which I was born feels particularly poignant. I am extremely proud of this 50 Years Old, it has the exceptional concentration and complexity that can only be achieved by prolonged wood ageing.”

 

The brand says the wine has flavours of orange blossom, baking spices, and seasoned week. The 50 Years Old Tawny Port is presented in a wooden box with an inlay designed by Portugese artist Mariana Rodrigues. The illustrations show some of the native flora and fauna of the Douro Valley, where the port is produced. 

 

Graham’s 50 Years Old Tawny Port will be available in 75 and 45 cl from May 2024. 

 

Earlier this month, Symington announced three vintage ports created in the heatwave of 2022.
