Box office: 'Bade Miyan Chote Miyan' loses all hope

    What's the story

Audiences eagerly anticipated a high-octane action extravaganza in Bade Miyan Chote Miyan—starring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff. However, just sixteen days after its April 10 release, the film's earnings amounted to a meager ₹45 lakh, massively falling short of expectations. Despite experiencing an initial surge in interest, it has struggled to keep pace with Ajay Devgn's Maidaan. BMCM seems to have lost steam, showing no signs of resurgence.

    Context

    Why does this story matter?

Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, BMCM was released head-to-head with Devgn's sports biographical drama Maidaan. The film boasts a talented ensemble cast including Alaya F, Sonakshi Sinha, Manushi Chhillar, and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Despite being mounted on a reported high budget of ₹400cr and a star-studded lineup, the film failed to resonate with viewers. The underwhelming box office performance suggests that it may not even reach the earlier predicted ₹100cr mark.

    Occupancy report

'Bade Miyan Chote Miyan' struggles to find audience

Per Sacnilk, the film's domestic collection stands at ₹58.9cr. The occupancy report for Bade Miyan Chote Miyan showed a dismal overall Hindi occupancy of just 5.16%, falling below both Crew's and Maidaan's occupancy rates. Morning shows recorded a footfall of only 2.09%, while afternoon shows had an occupancy rate of 8.57%. Evening shows saw an even lower rate at 4.83%, with night shows witnessing zero footfall, adding to the film's struggles at the box office.

    Plot

    Everything to know about 'BMCM'

Kumar and Shroff aside, the action-thriller features Sukumaran as the villain. The plot revolves around an elite team of soldiers who join forces to retrieve a stolen weapon from a masked madman bent on destroying India. The film is a joint venture between Pooja Entertainment and AAZ Films. It boasts a musical score by Julius Packiam and songs by Vishal Mishra, cinematography by Marcin Laskawiec, and editing by Steven H Bernard. It's the first of Kumar's many releases of 2024.
