Stock market update: Nifty IT index advances 0.33%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty IT index closed on a positive note on Friday.

Shares of Tech Mahindra Ltd.(up 7.44 per cent), LTIMindtree Ltd.(up 3.31 per cent), MphasiS Ltd.(up 3.09 per cent), Wipro Ltd.(up 0.79 per cent) and Coforge Ltd.(up 0.78 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, L&T Technology Services Ltd.(down 7.81 per cent), HCL Technologies Ltd.(down 2.02 per cent), Persistent Systems Ltd.(down 0.96 per cent), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd.(down 0.81 per cent) and Infosys Ltd.(down 0.58 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty IT index closed 0.33 per cent up at 33666.25.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 150.4 points at 22419.95, while the BSE Sensex stood down 609.28 points at 73730.16.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 16 ended in the green, while 34 closed in the red.

Shares of YES Bank, Indian Railway Fin, GMR Infra, HUDCO and Bank of Maharashtra were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of Kirloskar Pneumatic, Kirloskar Ind, HUDCO, Dolat Invst and Asahi Songwon hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Atal Realtech, Sheela Foam, Future Supply Chain, Popular Vehicles and Vodafone Idea hit their fresh 52-week lows.
