Alberto Orso’s 15 Year Volunteer Journey at Miami International Airport

Alberto Orso, named MIA’s 2024 Volunteer of the Year, has dedicated an impressive 15 years to volunteering at Miami International Airport and has also participated in over 300 5K races, showcasing his unwavering commitment and dedication. Serving as an MIA Volunteer Ambassador, he has become well-known for his compassionate assistance to elderly travelers, guiding them all the way to their gates or to the Miami Intermodal Center. Furthermore, he consistently steps up to volunteer for various events, demonstrating his willingness to go the extra mile in serving his community.

Beyond his notable contributions at MIA, Alberto extends his generosity to other significant events and organizations in Miami. He volunteers his time at prestigious events such as the Miami Open tennis tournament, the Miami Grand Prix, and with the Miami-Dade County Elections Department, showcasing his broad spectrum of community engagement. Among his many accomplishments, Alberto has been an active participant in the MIA Runway 5K Series since its inception in 2020, further highlighting his passion for both volunteerism and fitness.

Orso’s outstanding contributions and exceptional service were recently celebrated at the airport’s 2024 Volunteer Ambassador Recognition Gala, held during National Volunteer Week on April 24. In recognition of his selfless dedication, he was honored with 90,000 travel points from MIA’s hub carrier, American Airlines, as well as a complimentary one-night stay at the W South Beach Hotel, generously provided by the Greater Miami and the Beaches Hotel Association. These accolades reflect Alberto Orso’s remarkable commitment to serving his community and making a positive impact through his volunteer work.
