    What's the story

Volkswagen's all-new Tayron SUV has been unveiled at the ongoing Beijing Motor Show 2024. The vehicle is set to first enter the Chinese market, with plans for a subsequent launch in India in 2025. The model designed for China, also known as the Tiguan L Pro, offers a five-seater configuration. However, some markets can anticipate a seven-seat version under the Tayron nameplate.

    Design

    Volkswagen Tayron: At a glance

The design of the Tayron SUV incorporates elements from VW's latest global SUV range. It retains the slightly rounded aesthetic of the new Tiguan and introduces an aggressive-looking front bumper with a contrast black finish for the fascia on the top-spec R variant. The Tayron's fascia closely resembles that of the 5-seater Tiguan. With dimensions surpassing those of its five-seater counterpart, it measures 4,735mm in length, 1,859mm in width, and 1,682mm in height.

    Interior

The SUV offers massage seats with heating and ventilation functions

The interior design of the Tayron draws inspiration from the new five-seat Tiguan available overseas. Dominating the dashboard are three screens - one for the main infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, and another on the passenger side. All screens utilize VW's latest MIB4 digital interface. Additional features include power-adjustable seats with memory function, 10-point massage seats with heating and ventilation options, wireless phone charging, a 360-degree camera, head-up display, dual-zone climate control, and an ADAS suite.

    Engine & release

Volkswagen Tayron: Engine and transmission options

In China, the Tayron will be available with a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine in two power outputs, paired with a 7-speed DCT gearbox and an optional all-wheel drive system. The base model delivers 184hp and 320Nm of torque, while the higher-spec variant offers 217hp and 350Nm of torque. Volkswagen's CEO, Thomas Schafer, has positioned the new Tayron as a global model with production commencing in Germany and Mexico after its Chinese release.
