Shubman Gill features in his 100th IPL encounter: Key stats
Shubman Gill is set to lead Gujarat Titans in Match 40 of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The impending duel in Delhi marks the 100th match for Gill in the cash-rich league. Gill, who owns over 3,000 IPL runs, has also represented Kolkata Knight Riders. Nevertheless, GT have won the toss and elected to field first.
Fourth-fastest to 3,000 IPL runs
Gill, who has completed a century of IPL appearances, owns 3,088 runs at 38.12 so far. He recently became the fourth-fastest batter to complete 1,000 runs in the tournament (94 innings), only behind Chris Gayle (75), KL Rahul (80), and Jos Buttler (85). As per Cricbuzz, at 24 years and 215 days, Gill also became the youngest to this milestone.

Gill started his IPL journey in 2018, with KKR. His breakthrough season came in 2020 when he smacked 440 runs at 33.84. Gill, who emerged as KKR's mainstay opener, starred with several match-winning knocks. The Indian batter scored 478 runs in 2021 at 28.11, helping KKR reach the final. He joined the Titans next season at the mega auction.
Two incredible seasons for GT
Gill smashed 483 runs at 34.50 in GT's title-winning campaign in 2022. He had a strike rate of 132.33 that season. Gill leveled up and compiled a mammoth 890 runs from 17 matches at 59.33 last season. His tally of runs in a season is just behind Virat Kohli's (973 runs in 2016). Gill slammed three tons and four half-centuries in 2023.
Only batter with over 1,000 IPL runs for GT
Gill is the only batter with over 1,000 IPL runs for GT, a franchise that debuted in 2022. Currently, Hardik Pandya and David Miller are the only other players with over 800 IPL runs for GT. Gill stands out 1,671 at 46.41 for the Titans, a tally that includes three tons. Notably, no batter other than Gill has an IPL ton for GT.
How Gill has fared in IPL 2024
Gill was appointed GT's captain ahead of the ongoing season, after Hardik moved to Mumbai Indians in a record trade. As of now, GT have won four and lost as many games.
