Royal Challengers Bengaluru's Dinesh Karthik has been among the runs in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. He has the second-most runs for RCB (251) so far with a staggering strike rate of 196.09. After playing for a host of franchises, Karthik has made his name as a potent finisher in T20 cricket. Here are his lesser-known records in the cash-rich league.
One of three players with 250 IPL appearances
Karthik recently became just the third player after Mahendra Singh Dhoni (258) and Rohit Sharma (251) to complete 250 IPL appearances. He is among only seven players to have featured in every season of the IPL since the inaugural edition in 2008. Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Wriddhiman Saha, and Manish Pandey are the others on this elite list.
Over 100 wicket-keeping dismissals
Karthik is one of only three players with over 100 wicket-keeping dismissals in the IPL. He has the second-most dismissals in this regard (170), only behind Dhoni (185). Karthik remains the only player other than Dhoni to have affected over 30 stumpings in the tournament. Karthik has 36 stumpings compared to Dhoni's 42. Wriddhiman Saha follows Karthik with 26 stumpings.
49 unbeaten scores in IPL
It is worth noting that Karthik is one of only two players to have returned unbeaten in an IPL innings more than 45 times (among batters with over 4,000 runs). Karthik, with 49 unbeaten scores, is only behind Dhoni (93).
Over 4,000 IPL runs as wicket-keeper
As of now, Karthik has slammed 4,767 runs from 250 IPL encounters at an average of 26.63. As many as 4,388 of these runs have come as a wicket-keeper. Karthik and Dhoni are the only two players to have scored over 4,000 runs as designated wicket-keepers. Karthik strikes at 134.89 in this regard. Dhoni leads this tally with 5,055 runs.
Third-most runs in death overs
Karthik has the third-most runs in death overs (last four) in the IPL. With 1,433 runs at an incredible strike rate of 187.03, he is only behind Dhoni and Kieron Pollard in this regard. The tally includes 88 sixes and 137 fours.
