BJD MP Pinaki Misra files defamation lawsuit against Dehadrai

    What's the story

Biju Janata Dal MP, Pinaki Misra, has initiated a defamation lawsuit against Advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai in the Delhi High Court. The suit aims to prevent Dehadrai from spreading "false and damaging statements" against Misra. The accusations reportedly emerged after a personal disagreement between Dehadrai and Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra.

    Legal clarification

Misra denies involvement in cash-for-query allegations

Notably, Misra has been summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a preliminary inquiry related to cash-for-query allegations against Moitra. However, he clarified in his lawsuit that he is not implicated in any way in the CBI's First Information Report (FIR), nor have any charges been filed against him. Misra strongly refutes Dehadrai's claim that he held ₹2 crore in cash for purchasing high-value items on behalf of Moitra.

    Accusations

Misra accuses Dehadrai of spreading defamatory allegations

Misra has expressed dissatisfaction with an interview conducted by Dehadrai with news agencies ANI and PTI following a hearing in his defamation case against Moitra. In this interview, Dehadrai mentioned Misra for the first time, making what Misra describes as "wild, imaginary, false, reckless and per se defamatory allegations" against him. The defamation suit also names the two news agencies and X (previously Twitter) as defendants.
