Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has achieved an impressive milestone by welcoming over 52.8 million passengers during the fiscal year 2023-24, showcasing a significant 16% increase in passenger traffic compared to the previous fiscal year, which had 43.9 million passengers. The airport saw more than 26 million arrivals and 26.7 million departures, accommodating 324,972 Air Traffic Movements (ATMs), marking a 12% year-on-year growth from the previous year’s 290,387 ATMs. Additionally, CSMIA processed over 40.7 million bags, a 31% increase from the previous year’s 31 million bags.

The airport’s growth in both domestic and international passenger traffic solidifies its position as a leading travel hub in the Indian aviation industry. Noteworthy months include November and December 2023, with November 25th marking the highest passenger traffic for the month, and November 11th achieving the highest-ever single-day Air Traffic Movements (ATMs). December 2023 also saw record-breaking monthly traffic.

In terms of destinations, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad remained the top domestic destinations, while Dubai, London, Abu Dhabi, Singapore, and Doha were the preferred international destinations. IndiGo, Air India, and Vistara emerged as key players in market share for both international and domestic sectors.

CSMIA expanded its international connectivity by adding destinations like Almaty, Lagos, Jakarta, Entebbe, and Melbourne, along with increased frequencies to other major cities. Notably, London, Istanbul, and Hong Kong experienced significant growth in passenger traffic.

Key initiatives in FY 2023-24 included runway re-carpeting, expansion of security facilities, introduction of “Taxiway Z” for reduced taxi time and emissions, commissioning of a specialized aircraft recovery kit, expansion of flight operations, and implementation of sustainable energy projects like rooftop solar and wind turbines.

The notable increase in passenger traffic at CSMIA reflects its commitment to growth, hospitality, extensive connectivity, and safety measures, promising travelers seamless experiences.
