Eternal You Doc Trailer

"We are on the verge of a new era." Dogwoof has revealed an official trailer for an indie documentary film titled Eternal You, made by filmmakers Hans Block & Moritz Riesewieck. This first premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival in January and also played at the CPH:DOX & Thessaloniki Documentary Fests. If you had the chance to talk to a loved one who died, would you take it? Eternal You delves into the world of startups using artificial intelligence to create avatars of the deceased - a fascinating experiment of this era. Startups are trying to utilize AI to create avatars that allows to talk with their loved ones after death. The film explores the deep human desire for immortality, questioning consequences of commodifying this age-old dream. For those against A.I., this film isn't entirely positive. Sundance says: "Little is known about the effects that this kind of generative A.I. might have on our brains, hearts, and wallets. The filmmakers do not claim to have the answers, but instead bring up various emotional and moral complexities we should be aware of." This trailer is also critical of A.I. featuring a few stories about how weird and unsettling it can be.

Here's the official trailer for Block & Riesewieck's doc Eternal You, direct from Dogwoof's YouTube:

Eternal You Doc Film

The documentary Eternal You examines the story of people who live on as digital replicants in the pockets of their loved ones. With the help of artificial intelligence (A.I.) and Big Data, a dream comes true that is as old as mankind itself: eternal life. It's probably the biggest business idea of the digital age - tech start-ups which use a wealth of data to develop "digital doppelgangers," which promise to immortalize people on earth. The film raises a number of questions, such as: Can a digital entity compensate for the loss of a loved one? How will human memory be affected? And do we not have the right to forget? Eternal You is co-directed by German doc filmmakers Hans Block & Moritz Riesewieck, both directors of the doc The Cleaners previously, plus one other short. Produced by Christian Beetz, Zora Nessl, Lena Raith, and Georg Tschurtschenthaler. This initially premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. Dogwoof will release Eternal You in theaters later in 2024 - stay tuned for the date. For more, visit their official site.
