Man United scrape past Coventry in FA Cup thriller but leave Wembley with ‘no credibility’

Manchester United almost blew a shot at reaching the FA Cup final after letting a three-goal lead slip against Coventry.

Despite fans booing their performance, the Red Devils' blushes were spared after securing a penalty shootout win at Wembley to see off the EFL side.

The Red Devils looked home and dry at Wembley as they went 3-0 up after 58 minutes, however three goals in less than 25 minutes saw the Championship side take the clash all the way.

Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire put the Red Devils 2-0 up going into half-time, before Bruno Fernandes looked to have secured their spot in the FA Cup final.

But Coventry, led by former Man United man Mark Robins, were not going to be beaten that easily.

Ellis Simms got the comeback started, before Matt O'Hare's effort deflected off Aaron Wan-Bissaka to set up a nervy ending.

Coventry pushed forward and got their reward in the fifth minute of injury time when Luis Binks' cross hit the arm of Wan-Bissaka, leading to a late, late penalty.

Haji Wright, who kept his composure in a high-stakes moment, sent Andre Onana the wrong way to send the tie to extra time.

Extra time was also filled with heaps of drama, with Bruno Fernandes hitting the woodwork, before Simms did the same for Coventry just four minutes from time.

But with just 30 seconds of time left, Torp grabbed the winner to send Coventry through, only to see his effort ruled out by VAR for offside.
