Celtics backup center Luke Kornet was ruled out hours ahead of Sunday’s Game 1 against the Heat with a new calf injury.

Kornet hurt the calf in a recent practice, and his timeline for a return is unclear. Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla said the team will take a “week to week” approach with the seven-footer.

“Just in one of the drills, (he) came up a little tight, and I think you just have to kind of reevaluate in a couple days,” Mazzulla said before Sunday’s game. “So he’s done some non-contact stuff, so we’ll kind of see where he is every couple days, week to week.”

Kornet appeared in 63 regular-season games, averaging 5.3 points and 4.1 points in just over 15 minutes per game. He shot a career-high 70% from the field and made seven starts, occasionally in injury relief of Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford.

The Heat ruled out star Jimmy Butler and veteran guard Terry Rozier pregame. Sharpshooting forward Duncan Robinson is available off the bench.
