Like other parts of the state, Salcete also witnessed waterlogging with several road stretches getting inundated and choked drains overflowing.

Such a situation was especially witnessed in Margao, Fatorda and surrounding areas. There were also reports of a couple of trees uprooting and falling on the roads in Fatorda and the old market area near the district court. With the rainwater current, a lot of trash accumulated in the drains and nullahs in and around Margao washed away and flowed into the river Sal.

Several riders also suffered injuries after their two-wheelers skidded off on a slippery road stretch due to spilled oil.

The affected lane of the road was barricaded and the traffic was diverted to the other lane.  In a similar accident in Davorlim, a rider sustained major injuries.

Fire officer Gil Souza said, “Spilled oil turned the roads more slippery due to the rain, leading to several two-wheeler riders skidding off and sustaining injuries.”

“We cleared waste that washed away onto the road along the Arlem- Ambaji stretch. A coconut tree that had fallen on a compound wall and also on the road near the district court was cleared,” he said. Though the unseasonal rainfall brought respite from the searing heat, many faced hardships, especially the commuters.
