    Lenovo and Alibaba join forces to build AI computers

    At its Tech World event in Shanghai, Lenovo has announced a partnership with Alibaba Group to develop a series of AI products. This collaboration is part of a broader trend among Chinese tech giants to expand their AI offerings. The forthcoming products will include AI PCs with semiconductors specifically designed for local AI tasks, along with other AI-driven devices and business intelligence solutions.

    Lenovo also unveiled special editions of its AI PC, the Yoga Book 9i, along with other AI-driven devices, at its event. These computers feature a personalized AI assistant, Lenovo Xiaotian, supported by Alibaba's large language model, Tongyi Qianwen. The company's focus on AI mirrors a wider global trend in the PC industry to incorporate rapidly evolving technology into various products and services.

    AI PCs expected to dominate Chinese market by 2027

    According to market research firm IDC, AI PCs are predicted to become mainstream in the near future. The share of these machines among new PCs in the China is projected to reach 85% by 2027. At the conference, Lenovo's CEO, Yang Yuanqing, emphasized that the next stage of AI development will see a shift "from technological breakthroughs to practical application."

    Strategic partnerships

    Lenovo forms alliances to market AI-based products

    In addition to Alibaba, Lenovo has partnered with other e-commerce brands to market its AI-based products. The company recently renewed its partnership with JD.com to boost sales of new AI devices in China. The goal is to generate CNY 120 billion ($16.6 billion) in revenue from 2024 to 2026 through JD.com's online and offline channels. Recently, the company launched workstations designed for industrial, scientific, and developer use, featuring NVIDIA hardware, intensifying its focus on attracting professional users.
