    What's the story

A 26-year-old man has been detained by Vijayawada Police in Andhra Pradesh for allegedly throwing stones at Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and Vijayawada East MLA Vellampalli Srinivas Rao. The incident happened on Saturday when the chief minister was greeting people from atop an electoral bus during his "Memanta Siddham" (we are all ready) state tour. The incident took place as the convoy was passing through Ajit Singh Nagar in Vijayawada.

    Locals allege harassment

However, locals and family members of the suspect assert that residents of their colony are being subjected to harassment under the guise of interrogation. The suspect, identified as autorickshaw driver Vemula Durga Rao, was picked up by the police at his residence on Wednesday morning, according to the Times of India. He was reportedly taken to an undisclosed location for interrogation.

    Investigation progress

Investigation underway for possible accomplices in attack

In addition to the primary suspect, three others are currently under investigation for their potential involvement. Reddy suffered a minor injury above his left eyebrow, while Rao sustained an injury to his left eye. A special task force led by Police Commissioner K Rana Tata is overseeing the investigation and has taken the accused into custody. Local police have also filed an FIR under IPC Section 307 (attempt to murder) at Ajit Singh Nagar police station.

    Tour continuation

Chief minister resumes tour despite attack

Reddy resumed his tour on Monday after taking a break on Sunday. The bus tour was part of a 21-day election campaign stretching from Idupulupaya in Kadapa district to Icchapuram in Srikakulam district. Elections for Andhra Pradesh's 175-member Assembly and 25 Lok Sabha seats are set for May 13, with vote counting on June 4.
