ORANGE COUNTY, Fla — The cities of Winter Garden and Winter Park have new commissioners after Tuesday’s runoff elections.
In Winter Garden, Iliana R. Jones pulled ahead with 574 votes, narrowly beating Ron Mueller, who earned 517 votes, according to the Orange County Supervisor of Elections. The two were running for the city’s City Commissioner District 2 seat.
Although 57 votes is a close race, it’s nothing compared to the 34 votes separating Craig Russell from challenger Jason Johnson. In the Winter Park City Commissioner seat 2 runoff race, Russel earned 2,869 votes, compared to Johnson’s 2,835.
The runoff races came because no clear candidate won a majority of the votes in each race. The initial election took place during Florida’s Presidential Preference Primary, which also saw several local government charter amendments throughout Central Florida.
