Chennai: As campaigning for the Lok Sabha election draws close in Tamil Nadu, verses from Holy Quran are quoted against the sitting DMK MP from the Arakkonam Parliamentary Constituency, S. Jagatrakshagan, for owning liquor factories.
PMK’s Arakkonam candidate K. Balu, an ally of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), is using verses from Quran to urge people to vote against Jagatrakshagan, who owns two distilleries in his constituency.
Holy Quran clearly says, Those who make people drink liquor are “Satans". There are ten sins mentioned in Holy Quran that are related to manufacturing, marketing, and retail sale of the liquor. Jagatrakshagan is involved in eight of the ten sins, K. Balu says quoting verses from Holy Quran.
In the pamphlet, K. Balu, urges that Jagatrakshagan owns two liquor factories, Accord Breweries and Distilleries in Nathanallur and Illayanar Veyloor villages in the Kanchipuram District of Tamil Nadu.
K Balu, who is Spokesperson of Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), appeals to the Muslims to vote against the sitting MP because 'Holy Quran is totally against liquor consumption and gambling'.
K. Balu was campaigning in Melvisharam, part of Ranipet Assembly Constituency with a large Muslim population.
Tamil Nadu has a total of 39 seats. Out of which, PMK is contesting on 10 seats and the BJP on 23. Rest are being contested by the smaller parties of the BJP led NDA alliance.
If the BJP-led NDA has alliance of nine parties, ruling DMK is contesting the 2024 Polls in partnership with Congress and seven other parties. Seat-wise, DMK is contesting on 22 seats and Congress 09.
Polling for all the 39 seats in Tamil Nadu will be held on April 19, 2024 in the first of the seven phase national polls being held to elect the 18th Lok Sabha.
