Mayim Bialik, renowned for her roles in 'The Big Bang Theory' and 'Blossom', recently shed light on the mistreatment of women in the entertainment industry, particularly in writers' rooms. In a candid discussion, Bialik opened up about her personal experiences and the systemic issues that plague the industry.
Speaking about her observations, Bialik highlighted the prevalence of mistreatment faced by women in writers' rooms, emphasising that it's not just about "difficult people" but rather a broader issue of power dynamics and gender inequality. She noted that while there are many wonderful people in the industry, there are also those who perpetuate harmful behaviours.
Reflecting on her own encounters with mistreatment, Bialik revealed that it's something that has touched her personally. She spoke about instances where she felt marginalised and dismissed, emphasising the importance of addressing such issues and creating a more inclusive and respectful work environment.
In addition to her advocacy for women's rights in the industry, Bialik also discussed her passion for writing and storytelling. She highlighted the power of storytelling to effect change and bring about greater awareness of important issues.
Speaking about the docuseries 'Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids', Bialik stated how the documentary shows what the culture was like back then. “You’re watching what the entire culture was like... This is not what what happened because ‘Nickelodeon this-that.’ Of course, it touched me personally. Of course, it did," she said.
“But what it also reminded me of is how far we had to come to get to a place where people like Christy get to advocate and we know what she means when she says, the mental health of children on set matters and there are things that we can do to make sure that there are no exceptions. ‘You can’t push that child',” she added.
