Whoa! Now what do we have here? A giant celestial being? Animation fans need to keep an eye out for this online series called Mothership, the latest creation from the animation studio known as Nathan Love. There are now two teaser trailers online, following premieres at film festivals back in 2023. It's mysteriously described as "a ridiculous space odyssey starting at the beginning of time itself (the Big Bang)." The story follows a creature known as the Starman. He is exiled to a planet where he accidentally creates life. "The Starman shapes and teaches these creatures, evolving them into human-esque forms. They worship him, he instructs them in the building of monuments and a civilization grows. With their help, the Starman is able to travel back to his galactic home. But was the creation he left behind a mistake?" These teasers reveal the humongous Starman creature in all of its glory and splendor, showing just how detailed every aspect of this animation looks. Even with only a tiny bit of footage, I'm hooked. I'll be waiting to watch when it launches.

Mothership Animation Teaser

Full intro from Nathan Love: "Mothershp adopts Pulp Fiction-style storytelling, diving head first into out-of-sync events and segments letting the viewer put the pieces together. Similar to Star Wars, it spans eras with a constant focus on Starman. The cross-genre series blends comedy, VFX, drama, and emotion, using various MEDIUMS for time jumps and exploring different story segments." It will be an anthology series with multiple episodes. The story intro is more exciting: "Mothership starts at the beginning of time itself - the Big Bang. This cosmic explosion not only created the universe as we know it, but also a set of celestial beings. Our story follows one of these beings - the Starman. In early times these gods lived lives of creation & destruction, forming galaxies & planets between drunken nights & lost weekends. But then he is banished and sent crashing onto a desolate planet with diminished powers and a foggy memory; exiled for eternity."

Mothership is a new animation project from the animation studio called Nathan Love, based in New York City, though operating mainly as a "cloud-based" studio now. "With our incredible team, over two decades of experience, and the support of our legendary partner, Aardman Animations, no assignment is too big, and no idea is too small." They also made this hilarious Aardman collaboration singing video ANL back in 2015. Mothership has already premiered a few episodes at various film festivals during 2023.
