A man has been arrested following the discovery of a body in Naas, Co Kildare, on Sunday afternoon.

Gardaí are investigating after the body of a man was discovered at about 1.30pm at a residence in Eustace Demesne in Naas.

The body has since been removed to the Mortuary at Naas General Hospital.

The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified and a post-mortem examination is expected to take place on Monday, the results of which will determine the course of the garda investigation.

A man, aged in his 40s, has been arrested as part of this investigation and he is currently being detained at a garda station in County Kildare under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

The scene remained sealed off by gardaí this morning, and members of the garda technical bureau arrived to carry out a forensic examination.

They began by examining the contents of recycling bins on the street.

Neighbours in the quiet estate on the outskirts of Naas town said they were shocked to learn of the news of the death of the man.

One neighbour said the first they learned that there was something wrong was when gardai arrived at around 1.30pm yesterday and gained access to the house.

It then became apparent that a search of the back garden had taken place, and later they saw a man being taken away in a garda car at around 7.30pm.

“We didn’t see or hear anything suspicious before that. It was all quite a shock,” said one neighbour.
