Larry Masterson: a seasoned veteran who was intensely curious about what made other people tick
The former television producer Larry Masterson has died aged 73.
Larry Masterson
My first assignment as a producer in RTÉ was to work on a brand new entertainment series that was due to be broadcast on Friday nights after the main evening news. It was called The Live Mike. It starred Mike Murphy, and, as its title suggests, it was broadcast live.
Some of the production team were like me: completely new to television and struggling to make sense of our new careers. But there were also some who had worked on other programmes in the station. One of these was a researcher called Larry Masterson. He had only been in RTÉ for a few years, but, to me, he already seemed like a seasoned veteran.
