Several posts have been updated to remove specific information about where prospective jurors work, which was detailed in open court.
Donald Trump’s hush-money trial — the first criminal prosecution of a former U.S. president — began Monday with the start of jury selection. Ten potential jurors were questioned after dozens of others said they could not be impartial and were excused. The first part of the day in court was taken up by other issues, including discussions of what evidence jurors will hear.
Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, is in the unprecedented position of running for a second term in the White House from a defendant’s table. He also has three other criminal cases pending.
The trial is not being televised. The Washington Post had three reporters in the courtroom and media overflow room, who have been posting updates here. Trump faces 34 counts of falsifying business records in his reimbursement of lawyer Michael Cohen for the hush money payment to Stormy Daniels.
