Powder day Tuesday? Snowfall expected in Steamboat Springs

The beautiful weather in Steamboat Springs this weekend is expected to give way to a wintry-mix storm by Tuesday, according to local meteorologist Mike Weissbluth’s Sunday afternoon report on SnowAlarm.com.

“After another gorgeous spring day today and a similar start to Monday, an approaching wintry storm will bring snows back to our area by Monday night with significant high-elevation accumulations expected by Tuesday,” Weissbluth wrote.

Weissbluth explained how a “wintry” system is “sliding down the southern California coast” and is expected to impact Colorado by Monday night.

The local meteorologist said the expected snowfall would become “moderate-to-heavy” later Monday and overnight into Tuesday, “with 4-8″ of snow expected for the Monday morning mid-mountain ski report and another 3-6″ between report time and Monday afternoon.”

Weissbluth forecasted a break in participation later Tuesday and into Wednesday, “but another cold storm currently moving through the Gulf of Alaska is forecast to move through the Pacific Northwest and at least graze our area by later Wednesday or Thursday.”

“Cool and unsettled weather looks to last into the weekend as another cool storm impacts our area starting by Wednesday night,” he added.

While “a fair bit of uncertainty” remains in terms of how the impending storm system later in the week would behave, and how long it would remain over the Steamboat Springs area, the Sunday SnowAlarm.com post implored community members to “enjoy what looks like another powder day on Tuesday.”

Closing day at the Steamboat ski resort is April 21.
