    What's the story

The Central Board Of Film Certification (CBFC) is reportedly closely scrutinizing the upcoming film Love Sex Aur Dhokha 2 (LSD 2). The film, which delves into the digital age, features several explicit and provocative scenes that have ignited a buzz. According to insiders, "The jury members have asked for the removal of some dialogues considered abusive by the CBFC." They also requested a disclaimer about Section 377 concerning Kullu's (a transgender character) story in the film.

    Context

    Why does this story matter?

LSD 2 is scheduled to release in theaters on April 19, promising an explosive drama. In a groundbreaking casting move, transgender woman Bonita Rajpurohit takes the lead role, portraying Kullu. The trailer hints at Kullu becoming the victim of sexual assault. It highlights the lack of specific laws addressing crimes against trans people, as the police mention that while Section 376 (rape/sexual assault) pertains to women, there is no provision for trans individuals.

    Compliance

    Filmmakers comply with CBFC's recommendations

In response to CBFC's recommendations, the makers of LSD 2 have sought a 33A Certificate and made the necessary changes, reported Mid-Day. The trailer also introduced new faces Rajpurohit, Abhinav Singh, and Paritosh, and renowned celebrities like Mouni Roy and singer Anu Malik. It provides a glimpse into our current digital era, represented by numerous social media icons on screen. The film is directed by Dibakar Banerjee and produced by Ektaa Kapoor under Balaji Motion Pictures.

    Director's take

Earlier, director Banerjee discussed 'LSD 2' concept

Director Banerjee shared insights about the forthcoming film with ANI. He revealed: "It wasn't my idea, it was Ektaa's idea. She suggested that enough time had passed and society had changed so much that we could make LSD 2." He further added that the film explores "how our virtual life has now completely dominated our real life." The original installment of the film—released in 2010—featured a star-studded cast including Rajkummar Rao, Neha Chauhan, Anshuman Jha, and Nushrratt Bharuccha, among others.

    Statement

Meanwhile, Kapoor is worried for 'LSD 2': Here's why

In a recent interview, Kapoor opened up about the backlash she faced for her 2023 release, Thank You For Coming—which delves into the topic of female pleasure. Speaking to Variety, Kapoor expressed her dismay at the stark contrast in the film's reception in India versus its overseas appreciation. She stated, "And the hate spamming we went through—our walls used to be spammed every day with hatred." "I can only imagine what's gonna happen when LSD 2 comes."
