PROSPECT – Loretta Ferland Spataro, of Prospect, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2024, at the age of 85.

Loretta was born on Sept. 3, 1938 in Waterbury. She graduated from Waterbury Catholic High School, class of 1956. She was a dedicated employee for Waterbury Garment, Dumouchel Paper, Shop-Rite and most recently LaBonne’s Market.

She was a member of the St. Pius X Church Ladies Guild and the Gen. Philip Sheriden Columbiettes Auxiliary, where she held many offices including president. She also had the office of president for the Columbiettes Connecticut State Council.

She enjoyed being a volunteer with the Connecticut Special Olympics. She was a member of many churches and volunteered for Monday night bingo at St. Anthony Church in Prospect.

She was preceded in death by her husband(s) Leonel G. Ferland Sr. and Domenic Spataro; her parents Louise Cucchiniello LaPio and Samuel LaPio Sr.; her siblings Samuel LaPio Jr. and Geraldine LaPio; as well as her granddaughter Samantha Ferland.

She is survived by her son Leonel G. Ferland Jr., his son Jason, his daughter Brandi and Kyle, his son Leonel G. Ferland III and Danielle; her daughter Sandra and David Mennillo Sr., their son David Jr. and Rebecca. and their daughter Maria and Sean Loomis; her son Joseph Ferland Sr. and his children Heather and Joseph Jr.; her son John Ferland and his son John.

She is also survived by her sisters Barbara Rivard and Bernard, and Sandra Lango and Frank.

She loved every minute she spent with her great-grandchildren Jayden, Richard, Legend and Carter.

Loretta also leaves behind many relatives, nieces, nephews and her very dear friends. She looked forward to meeting twice a month with her ‘classmate crew’ for breakfast and lunch.

Our family would like to thank everyone for loving our mom and praying so strongly for her in her time of need.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Waterbury on Aug. 3 at 10 a.m., with burial at Calvary Cemetery immediately following Mass.
