North Goa Congress candidate Ramakant Khalap has called for efforts to create a land bank which would be preserved for future generations of Goans.

“Let us think about the next 3-4 generations. We need to preserve the comunidade and fazenda land for our Goans. Also, there must be a small restriction on the sale of agricultural land. Why can›t the government introduce a law so that Goans get the first right to purchase land?” said Khalap during his campaign in Bardez on Saturday.

“I had proposed that let us create a land bank that will be reserved for future Goans. But the government has not acted,” the former law minister said.

On Saturday, Khalap held a series of worker meetings on Saturday as part of his campaign.

The party’s Aldona MLA and coordinator for the North Goa seat Carlos Alvares Ferreira along with Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Amit Patkar and other leaders were present.

Khalap began his day with a visit to Sharvani Temple and Mae De Deus Church at Saligao, followed by a meeting with party workers at the panchayat hall.

Khalap later proceeded to Calangute, where he paid obeisance to the deity at Shantadurga Temple, and subsequently met party workers at Gaurawaddo.

The Congress candidate also visited the Swami Achutananda Temple at Caisua, Anjuna. He also inaugurated the Siolim Congress office at Zhor Waddo, Anjuna.

Later he visited St Anthony’s Church, Vagator, and met party functionaries at John Dsouza’s residence at Badem-Assagao.
