Mayank Yadav to miss LSG's upcoming IPL matches: Here's why

    What's the story

In a major blow for Lucknow Super Giants, pace sensation Mayank Yadav is unlikely to participate in LSG's next two games in the ongoing 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). Team coach Justin Langer said the same on the eve of LSG's next fixture, against Delhi Capitals. Mayank left the field after bowling just a solitary over in his preceding outing against Gujarat Titans.

    Context

    Why does this story matter?

Mayank has made a sparkling start to his IPL career, claiming match-winning three-wicket hauls in his first two outings. What majorly grabbed eyeballs was his ability to clock over 150 KPH often. Many even reckon the uncapped pacer should be a part of India's ICC T20 World Cup squad, which gets underway in June. Hence, his absence is a major dent in LSG's plans.

    Statement

    What did Langer say?

"He felt a little bit of tightness at the top of his hip leading into the last game, but that was about a one-out-of-ten pain, and we thought that there were clinical signs," Langer said in a press conference. "Everything through the doctors and the physios seemed perfectly okay. He bowled that first over [against Titans] and started feeling something in his hip."

    Potential comeback

Mayank aims to comeback in the CSK game

After hosting DC on April 12, LSG will travel to the Eden Gardens to take on hosts Kolkata Knight Riders on April 14. Langer stated the short turnaround and the travel have made Mayank's recovery even more difficult. Nevertheless, as per the team management's plan, the 21-year-old should be fit for the match against Chennai Super Kings on April 19.

    Stats

    Brilliant start to IPL career

Mayank bowled eight overs combined in his first two overs, claiming six wickets for 41 runs. As per journalist Abhishek Mukherjee, all six of Mayank's wickets are top-order batters, including five Test cricketers. As per Cricbuzz, Mayank became the sixth bowler to claim three+ wicket hauls in each of their first two IPL matches.

    Feat

    Another massive record for Mayank

Mayank is the 4th-fastest player in IPL history in terms of fastest balls bowled. His speed of 156.7 KMPH against Royal Challengers Bengaluru is only behind Shaun Tait - 157.71 KMPH, Lockie Ferguson - 157.3 KMPH and Umran Malik - 157 KMPH. He surpassed Anrich Nortje - 156.2 KMPH.

     Mohsin

    Update on Mohsin Khan

Mohsin Khan is another uncapped Indian pacer whose fitness LSG have been sweating on. The left-arm paceman missed his side's last two fixtures due to hamstring issues. While Langer ruled him out of the DC game, he hinted that the KKR match could mark his return. Notably, LSG have made a fine start to their campaign, winning three of their first four games.
