The basketball shoe also takes inspiration from Converse's Tar Max Mid and Run ’N Slam from the early '90s.

Converse Basketball‘s synergy with Nike continues with the new All Star BB Shift CX.

Just as the All Star BB Shift and All Star BB Trilliant CX before it borrowed technology from Nike, the latest performance basketball sneaker from Converse features an enlarged Air Zoom unit in the forefoot for bounce and responsiveness. This feature works in conjunction works in conjunction with Converse’s CX foam in the midsole, but it isn’t just the namesake tech that sets apart the All Star BB Shift CX from its CX-less predecessor.

To give the All Star BB Shift CX a new but familiar look, Converse borrowed details from the Tar Max Mid and Run ’N Slam from the early ’90s. The also upper boasts a synthetic, adjustable cable system to lock down the foot and an internal plush collar for additional comfort. Neither archival sneaker features the same wavy lines, though, which gives the All Star BB Shift CX appeal on its own terms as well.

There’s a good chance we see the latest from Converse on the feet of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in his upcoming playoff run with the Oklahoma City Thunder. It could even be the last Converse shoe he wears on-court, as he’ll reportedly become a sneaker free agent in the off-season and will be looking to get his own signature model.

The Converse All Star BB Shift CX will release August 1 through Converse and select third-party retailers. Pricing has not yet been announced.
