Bayer Leverkusen have been likened to Bournemouth by a West Ham fan who was left unimpressed by the Bundesliga table-toppers.

The Hammers are on the brink of a Europa League quarter-final exit following their 2-0 defeat at the BayArena on Thursday night.

A resolute display from David Moyes’ side was eventually undone in a frantic final ten minutes when goals from Jonas Hofmann and Victor Boniface left West Ham with a tall order in next week’s second leg at the London Stadium.

West Ham’s European hopes now hang in the balance leaving Moyes with the inevitable task of doing what no other manager has done this season – beat the runaway Bundesliga leaders.

But for unhappy supporter Paul, Moyes’ substitutions was the biggest factor in his side’s downfall in Germany.

“I’m a West Ham fan through and through and on paper, Moyes is on paper the best manager we’ve had,” he told talkSPORT shortly after the disappointing defeat.

“But we’re 1-0 down and he puts two defenders on. He takes two forwards off and we’re 2-0 down. We go down there week in, week out and this is what you watch.”

Paul was not finished in his scathing assessment of Thursday’s clash and incredibly fired a wave of criticism at Xabi Alonso’s Bundesliga champions-elect side.

He added: "They were a good team, I don’t follow Bundesliga football but how on earth are they top of the league?

“But we just sit back and go 2-0 down when we probably should have been one or two up, I’m sick and tired of it.
