U.S. 287 is reopen in Longmont after a derailed train led to a multi-hour closure, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

All northbound and southbound lanes officially reopened at 1st Avenue and Emery Street — mile point 315.4 in Longmont — around 1:45 a.m. Friday, CDOT said in an early morning announcement.

The Burlington Northern Santa Fe train was blocking multiple intersections, including 1st Avenue and Main Street, 1st Avenue and Coffman Street and 1st Avenue and Emery Street.

The derailment, caused by a detached wheel on a train car, was minor, but the train could not be moved until it was repaired, according to the City of Longmont.
