Stock market update: Sugar stocks down as market falls

A broker reacts while trading at his computer terminal at a stock brokerage firm in Mumbai — Nifty continues to climb a wall of worry as it looks to be in the final leg of its rally before heading for a correction.

NEW DELHI: Sugar shares closed lower in the Friday's session.

Kothari Sugars & Chemicals Ltd.(up 1.47%) and Simbhaoli Sugars Ltd.(up 1.24%) stood among the top gainers.

DCM Shriram Industries Ltd.(down 3.36%), Ugar Sugar Works Ltd.(down 3.03%), Avadh Sugar & Energy Ltd.(down 3.01%), Sakthi Sugars Ltd.(down 2.87%), Balrampur Chini Mills Ltd.(down 2.80%), Rajshree Sugars & Chemicals Ltd.(down 2.70%), Bajaj Hindusthan Sugar Ltd.(down 2.70%), KM Sugar Mills Ltd.(down 2.66%), Rana Sugars Ltd.(down 2.61%) and Shree Renuka Sugars Ltd.(down 2.61%) were among the top losers of the day.

The NSE Nifty50 index ended 234.4 points down at 22519.4, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed down 793.25 points at 74244.9.

Divi's Laboratories Ltd.(up 1.09%), Bajaj Auto Ltd.(up 0.66%), Tata Motors Ltd.(up 0.5%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd.(up 0.43%), Tata Consumer Products Ltd.(up 0.37%), Nestle India Ltd.(up 0.35%) and IndusInd Bank Ltd.(up 0.19%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.

On the other hand, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.(down 4.0%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.(down 3.29%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd.(down 2.59%), Titan Company Ltd.(down 2.48%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd.(down 2.32%), Grasim Industries Ltd.(down 2.27%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd.(down 1.98%), JSW Steel Ltd.(down 1.98%), Tech Mahindra Ltd.(down 1.92%) and Cipla Ltd.(down 1.84%) closed in the red.
