    What's the story

Google has announced that it is providing all users with complimentary access to its advanced editing features on Google Photos. Previously, these tools were exclusively available to subscribers paying a minimum of $20 annually. The list includes features such as Magic Eraser, Photo UnBlur, and Magic Editor, all driven by AI. They will be gradually introduced to non-subscribers from May 15 onward.

    Information

    Rollout details for advanced tools

For desktop users, the AI features will only be accessible to Chromebook Plus users with ChromeOS version 118+. Mobile device users wishing to access these tools must have at least Android 8.0 or iOS 15 and a minimum of 3GB of RAM.

    Use cases

    Detailed overview of the tools

The Photo UnBlur tool is designed to enhance the sharpness of slightly blurred images. The Magic Eraser feature allows users to remove or disguise unwanted elements in photos, such as unexpected photobombers or unsightly trash cans. The Magic Editor tool uses generative AI technology to modify objects within a photo, enabling users to manipulate objects in various ways. Users can move, resize, and reposition objects within a photo. It also enables large-scale edits like changing the color of the sky.

    Information

    Magic Editor's usage limitations

Google Photos users on both Android and iOS platforms will be allowed 10 monthly saves using Magic Editor. To exceed this limit, users will require either a Pixel device or a paid Google One plan with 2TB+ stoarge.
