Preps: Aspen girls lacrosse wins again; BHS baseball back on track

The Aspen High School girls lacrosse team finally returned to the field on Tuesday with a 19-7 win at Eagle Valley. It was the Skiers’ first game since spring break after this past weekend’s home contest against Summit was postponed due to the winter weather.
Eagle Valley fell to 0-9 overall after the league loss to Aspen, while the Skiers are now 5-2 overall and 2-2 in league play.
AHS next plays Thursday evening against Roaring Fork in Carbondale. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., with JV scheduled to play just before, at 4 p.m.
The Skiers rallied for the 8-7 win over the Rams back on March 13 in Aspen. RFHS is now 3-2 overall after Tuesday’s 22-12 win over Summit.
Also Tuesday, the Aspen boys lacrosse team took on Eagle Valley, losing 7-5 on the AHS turf. The Devils improved to 4-6 overall, while the Skiers fell to 2-5 overall, following a forfeit win over Summit this past weekend.
The Aspen boys are scheduled to host Glenwood Springs on Thursday.
Basalt baseball handles Cedaredge
The Basalt High School baseball team snapped a four-game losing streak on Tuesday with a 9-0 win over Cedaredge. The Bruins fell to 4-5 overall, while the Longhorns are now 2-5 on the season.
BHS has a doubleheader coming up on Saturday against Coal Ridge, which is ranked No. 6 in Class 3A this week.
Aspen baseball lost Tuesday at Delta, 15-0. The Skiers are now 1-3 overall with a trip to Grand Valley coming up on Thursday.
Track and field results from Eagle Valley
Area track and field teams converged on Gypsum this past Saturday for the Eagle Valley invitational, including Aspen and Basalt. Here are some of the highlights from the meet:
For the Skiers, it was Aspen’s Will Gerardi taking the boys triple jump win with a distance of 41 feet. Nico Smith was the other standout, taking third in the 200-meter dash (24.49 seconds) and fourth in the 400-meter dash (52.19).
Avila Jennings was the standout for the AHS girls, winning the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 36.29 seconds. The AHS girls relay team was third in the 4×800 (11:28.69) and Yasmine Khan-Farooqi was fifth in the long jump (14-3.5).
Basalt’s top result was second place from Jared Tennenbaum, who was runner-up in the boys 300-meter hurdles in 41.93 seconds. He was also fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (17.02). The BHS boys 4×200 relay team was fifth (1:42.53).
The BHS girls 800-meter sprint medley team finished fifth in 2:10.56.
Roaring Fork’s Kyra Reeds was second in the girls 100-meter hurdles (18.02). Nikki Tardif was third in the girls 400-meter dash (1:03.76) and fifth in the 200-meter dash (29.52).
Next up on the calendar for most teams will be Saturday’s meet hosted by Glenwood Springs.
