A woman who’s challenging Republican Steve Womack to represent Arkansas in Congress laid it all out on social media today, sharing a story that will resonate with any woman who’s suffered a miscarriage.
In a video posted to X, née Twitter, Wednesday afternoon, social worker and Democratic Third District candidate Caitlin Draper shares that she’s been undergoing IVF treatments. Good news of a pregnancy turned sour last week when her doctor told her she was miscarrying.
Watch her video below, in which she acknowledges her own options while recognizing that not all women in Arkansas are so lucky.
While current Arkansas law allows for abortion care in the case of ectopic pregnancies, Draper said there’s lots of confusion even among medical providers about what’s allowed. Draper said she’s lucky to have the financial resources to leave the state should she need abortion care, and worries about women without that option.
How pro-life is that? I am in this race to fight for pregnant people and women everywhere. We need your vote in November to fight for those that are struggling to receive the healthcare they desperately need. My name is Caitlin and I am running to be your next congressperson. pic.twitter.com/eWfn1SPsTx
