Jurgen Klopp was involved in a spiky exchange with a Dutch journalist he wrongly suspected of humiliating Jordan Henderson.

The Liverpool manager looked to publicly defend his former captain, now an Ajax player, after he was eviscerated on camera last month.

England international Henderson was put on the spot by Dutch media in a tense TV interview after a 2-2 draw with Fortuna Sittard.

The 33-year-old was confronted by a reporter asking if it had been his 'worst performance,' among other tense exchanges.

The interview, which came just days before Ajax were thumped 4-0 by Aston Villa in the Europa Conference League, left Henderson wryly smiling at the harsh line of questioning.

The clip went viral and obviously was brought to the attention of Klopp, who took a Dutch journalist to task when the latter posed a question ahead of Liverpool's Europa League quarter-final with Atalanta.

Without answering the inquiry, an annoyed-looking Klopp shot back: "You are not the one who interviewed Jordan Henderson, are you?"

When the response came back that it wasn't, Klopp pressed on laughing: “Good. That was your colleague? Your friend?

“That was uncomfortable, eh? With a microphone in your hand. What a horrible interview that was.”

Not backing down, the reporter boldly summarised: “You didn’t like it?”, to which a shocked Klopp posed: “Do you know anybody who liked it?”

The reporter added: "I spoke to him [his colleague] and he regretted a bit the interview, he was a bit too hard. He said it all on television."

Klopp responded: "Wow, okay. I take that apology on behalf of Hendo."

Klopp said goodbye to his former captain of nearly eight years last summer when Henderson sealed a move to Al Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia.

But the midfielder did not settle at the club despite landing a contract worth £650,000-a-week, which he will now likely never see a penny from.
