Former Manchester City star Micah Richards insisted he has one up on Kevin De Bruyne during his playing days.

De Bruyne is arguably one of the best midfielders the Premier League has ever seen and his trophy cabinet is bulging with accolades, including last season's treble at City.

But the Belgian is missing one piece on his mantel, one that former City defender Richards can gleefully brag he possesses.

While appearing on the Rest is Football podcast alongside Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker, the trio were discussing what awards they had won over their career.

With 740 goals between them for club and country, Shearer and Lineker boasted about their goalscoring feats before the latter was sent a message, which he read: "Is it true that Micah won Player of the Month and why doesn't he have it on display?"

Richards replied: "Of course I've won it. I think it was in 2007.

"You know what, I think I have it somewhere, but I was burgled while living in Manchester, so I've lost a lot of my stuff. I'll try and find it, but I don't know where everything is to be honest."

At this point, a producer intervened to reveal a message which stated: "Micah Richards has won a Player of the Month trophy - Kevin De Bruyne never has."

It left the trio rolling over with laughter while Richards could not contain himself.

"That's what I mean. People need to put some respect on my name," the former England international said. "Big Meeks!"
