NC State TE commit Gus Ritchey announces transfer to Wake County high school

On Wednesday night, rising senior tight end Gus Ritchey announced that he is now attending Cary High School in Wake County after a move to get closer to his dad's work. Gus previously attended Northwood High School in Chatham County for the first three years of his high school career.
He made the decision public on his X account. HighSchoolOT is told that Ritchey's first day at Cary will be on Thursday, Apr. 11.
The move will put Ritchey side-by-side with Cary's UNC offensive tackle commit Trey Blue. The tackle is 6-foot-6, 320 pounds. Ritchey is 6-foot-3, 245 pounds.
Ritchey committed to NC State over last summer. He initially committed to play under Mack Brown in Chapel Hill on Aug. 1 but flipped his pledge to the Wolfpack just eleven days later.
Ritchey was named Third Team HighSchoolOT All-State for his performance in the 2023 season. He accumulated 39 receptions for 845 yards (21.7/rec, 76.8/game) and nine touchdowns.
Northwood finished the season 7-4 overall and made it to the N.C. High School Athletic Association's 2A East playoffs.
Cary finished 2023 with a 1-9 overall record. The Imps are a 4A program that play in the Southwest Wake Athletic Conference.
