Steamboat Springs Transit will officially shift into its traditional summer service for the free bus starting Monday even as the ski area stays open one week longer. SST summer service runs similar routes as last season with a few minor time changes for certain stops.
“The free bus connects people to the places they love to go,” Transit Manager Jonathan Flint said. “SST moves more than one million riders a year and operates one of the most efficient rural transportation systems in Colorado, so hop aboard and leave the driving to us this summer.”
The main line sees one continuous loop between west Steamboat/downtown and the mountain. This line provides convenient 20-minute service throughout the day with no transfer required. SST’s local fleet is fitted with bike racks.
The first Main Line buses of the day depart The Ponds at 6:18 a.m. (Hotel & Condos), Gondola Transit Center at 6:38 a.m. (town-bound) and at 6:40 a.m. from Stockbridge (mountain-bound). The last departures of the day leave Stockbridge at 7:40 p.m., The Ponds at 7:58 p.m. and GTC at 8:18 p.m. SST will operate additional service for the Memorial Day Tribute, July 4 celebration and other special events this summer.
The night line returns with 30-minute service with the first and last bus from Stockbridge at 8 and 11 p.m., The Ponds at 8:18 and 11:18 p.m., and the GTC at 8:38 and 11:38 p.m. Again, this summer, SST will not travel into Ski Time Square, and passengers should use the GTC stop.
The successful Yellow Zone — a free, on-demand ride service — transitions from winter to summer. Customers can download the app and request on-demand rides within the service area from 7 a.m. to 6:20 p.m. The Yellow Zone includes downtown Steamboat and many surrounding neighborhoods. Transfers are required to go to West Steamboat, the Ski Area or condominiums.
SST’s regional service between Steamboat Springs and Craig is available with two daily departures in each direction, as well as reverse direction service. The bus begins with a full loop around Craig and then heads to Steamboat Springs at 5:15 a.m. and 6:15 a.m. In the afternoon, the coach departs the GTC heading west at 4:25 p.m. and 5:25 p.m. SST’s regional rates remain the same as last summer.
