    What's the story

Intel is currently investigating a series of gaming crashes reported by users of its latest Core i9 desktop chips. The issue has been identified in popular games such as The Finals, Fortnite, and Tekken 8. In response, Epic Games has issued a guidance notice for owners of specific Intel Core i9 models, advising them to adjust their BIOS settings. An Intel representative confirmed the ongoing investigation to ZDNet Korea.

    Official statement

Intel acknowledges issues with Core i9 processors

An Intel spokesperson confirmed the company's awareness of the issues, stating, "Intel is aware of problems that occur when executing certain tasks on 13th and 14th generation core processors for desktop PCs, and is analyzing them with major affiliates." The severity of the crashes varies across different games, with some displaying an "out of memory" error while others cause the computer to freeze entirely.

    Stability issues

Unreal Engine games most affected by crashes

Most of the games that are affected by these crashes, are built on the Unreal Engine, suggesting a potential stability issue that Intel has to address. Currently, the only known solutions that seem to better the stability involve manually adjusting Intel's chips. Epic Games has recommended altering the SVID behavior in BIOS settings for certain motherboards.

    Solutions proposed

Temporary fixes suggested for gaming crashes

Epic Games and custom PC maker Power GPU have proposed temporary solutions to improve stability. Epic Games suggests altering the SVID behavior to Intel Fail Safe in the BIOS settings of ASUS, Gigabyte, and MSI motherboards. Power GPU, on the other hand, recommends lowering the performance core ratio limit as it seems to enhance stability in certain games. These measures come as Intel continues its investigation into the main reason of these gaming crashes.
