Simon Harris’s pledge to the parents of Ireland that he would get their grown-up offspring “out of the box room” may have been a crowd-pleaser, but Fine Gael is not the only party promising to send round the packing crates.

His commitment to build 250,000 new homes over the next five years is roughly the same target as most other parties have adopted.
