SAM LOCAL MAGICIANS’ MEETING: The local group of The Society of American Magicians, Assembly #24, meets at 7pm PM on the second Tuesday of the month at the S. W. CHURCH DINNER: The Hebron United Presbyterian West is offering our monthly Free Community Dinner, Tuesday, April 9th . Mark your calendars for this scrumptious dinner at the West Hebron church facility, 3153 Co. Rte. 30 in West Hebron. Come alone, bring a friend or the family! We will have a delicious sit-down dinner and dessert between 4:00 and 6:00 PM. Sliced ham, potato casserole as well as a hearty vegan soup and cider will be provided. If you have not contributed a side dish in the past, please consider bringing one of the following choices: plant-based casserole, fresh veggies, veggie casserole, gluten-free selection, fresh fruit, or a dessert. Meet your rural neighbors and learn about programs at our church and other community programs in the area. GREEN DRINKS: A “green gathering” for those who work, volunteer, or have a passion for promoting the environment, conservation, and sustainability. April 10, from 5 – 7 pm at The Parting Glass, 40-42 Lake Ave, Saratoga Springs. Food, alcoholic, and non-alcoholic drinks are available for purchase. Green Drinks – Saratoga Springs is held monthly.

LVW TRAINING: The League of Women Voters Saratoga County will have a training session for community members and league members who are interested in volunteering for the League’s Candidate Events. No experience is necessary. In-person training for members will be provided for those interested in working on Candidate Forums for School Board Elections in May, Primary Elections in June, and/or the General Election this Fall. Training will be provided for the positions of Timers, Question Vetters, Zoom Hosts, Moderators, YouTube techs, and Event Coordinators. Or maybe you have a hidden, or not-so-hidden talent or skill that the League could use, such as IT skills, public speaking or experience with Zoom webinar, just to name a few. Don’t be shy! HISTORIAN TEA TALK: Following the tremendous success of last year’s series, and after many requests for a repeat, the Saratoga County History Center is delighted to host another series of Historian Tea Talks, with new speakers and topics, in the Long Room at Brookside Museum. Tea and cookies will be served. Space is limited, so registration is appreciated. There is a suggested donation of $5 for each talk, which may be made online or on the day. HOMESCHOOL POPUP PROGRAM: At Moreau Lake State Park, 10am. Join an educator in the nature center to learn about frogs and do a related activity. We are encouraging homeschool groups to attend, but it is open to the public. Geared toward ages 6+, siblings welcome. THEATER AUDITIONS: Auditions for the first production of Spotlighter’s Theatre Troupe’s 35th season ‘THE MASTERPIECE’ are April 8 & April 10. Looking for ages 7-adult. There are many roles for all ages! ‘The Masterpiece’, an original musical comedy, is a look back at the 1970s with the audience involved in figuring out the tangled web of characters. Originally written in 1999, this show is being revived for performances on June 22 & 23. Auditions are by appointment only. BINGO: Knights of Columbus #246 hosts Bingo at the KOC Hall located at 50 Pine Rd. in Saratoga Springs, every Wednesday evening. The doors open at 4:30 pm, the kitchen window (which is staffed by the Catholic Daughters) opens at 5:30 pm, games go on sale at 6 pm., and the first game starts at 7 pm. FOREST BATHING: At Moreau Lake State Park, 9am. The spring equinox will kick off our weekly forest bathing once again! Coined shinrin-yoku in Japan in the 1980’s, forest bathing is the ecotherapeutic practice of spending time immersed in nature, absorbing it with all of your senses. The physiological and psychological benefits last for days afterward with the additional benefit of a new appreciation of our precious woodland and its inhabitants. This is a beginner-rated walk along the Nature Trail with long pauses to sit and enhance our awareness of our surroundings and it is approximately a 2-hour program. A small mat is beneficial to ensure a dry seat. This program is limited to those age 14 and up. Pay $5 per person (cash or check) at the office upon arrival. POETRY WORKSHOP: A free program at the Waterford Public Library, 117 3rd St, Waterford, 518-237-0891. 5pm. Haiku, Senryu and Tanka are terse poetic forms adapted to English from the Japanese poetic tradition. Their seeming simplicity can unmask breathtaking insights, universal truths and unanswerable questions. This generative workshop will offer poets a delightful opportunity to play with the forms’ themes and structures to craft much from little. All experience levels welcome. CAMPFIRE CHAT: The second Friday of each month at Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park at 7pm. This program gathers participants around the campfire for a chat and discussion of local animal species and what is being done to support these populations. In addition to the discussion, participants will enjoy hanging out around the fire for cocoa, s’mores, and cookies! The April 12 topic will be all about turtles and participants will get to meet a live turtle. Upcoming dates are May 10 and June 14. Registration is required at least one business day in advance. ARTIST JAM: The second Friday of each month from 4-6 pm at the Galway Public Library, 2112 East St, Galway. Artist Jam is a social event for teen and adult artists in the community to get together and enjoy a relaxing workspace. Whether you’re looking to meet fellow creators or need an excuse to finish your latest project, this is the place for you! Please bring your own art supplies and a project to do. All forms of artistic media are welcome. This is a no-judgment zone, so no prior artistic experience is required to participate. At times, an art teacher will be in attendance to give guidance, if desired. Registration is requested, but not required, at 518-882-6385.

WIGGLY WANDERERS: At Moreau Lake State Park, 9:30am. Wiggly wanderers is a casual and fun program that is offered to walking toddlers, carriable babies and their caregivers. This will be a beginner’s hike/wander series for toddlers who are ready to move and caregivers who are willing and able to baby wear and/or carry their toddler if their legs get too tired. We will not plan too much distance walking and we will rely on teachable moments to carry us through these experiences. Strollers will not work for these programs. While you do not need to attend each week, we will continue to build our toddlers hiking skills as well as their caregivers’ confidence taking the children into the woods to explore. EAGLE WATCH: At Moreau Lake State Park, 8:30am. Join a Park Educator on a convoy-style journey along the Hudson River to try to spot our local Bald Eagles. We will be getting in and out of vehicles at a few locations and, with a little luck, viewing the eagles through binoculars and a scope so make sure to bring your hat and gloves! If you have binoculars bring them, we do have a couple of pairs to pass around as well. $5 program fee payable at the office upon your arrival (cash or check). UNDERWATER ROBOTICS WORKSHOPS: The Galway Public Library, 2112 East Street, Galway, is hosting a workshop series for teens in middle school and older titled Underwater SeaPerch Robotics. SeaPerch is an international program that gives teens an opportunity to be part of a real-world engineering and design project to build an underwater ROV (robot). The first session will be held on Saturday, April 13 from 10-3. The other four sessions will be April 20, May 18, June 1, and June 15. Attendance at every session is not required. SUSTAINABILITY FAIR: Sustainable Saratoga and Skidmore College invite you to join us for the Saratoga Sustainability Fair on April 13, from 10-3 at Skidmore College in the Case Center. The Sustainability Fair is a free community event celebrating sustainability awareness and opportunities. Come check out sustainable resources all in one spot and help make our community a more sustainable place to live and work. Spend some time in our exhibitor hall, where you will find resources on renewable energy, zero waste, sustainable gardening, social justice, alternative transportation, food production and security, natural resource protection, energy efficiency, sustainability efforts in Saratoga Springs, and much more. ROAD RALLY: Friends of the Mohawk Towpath Byway, Mohawk-Hudson Region Sports Car Club of America is hosting a road rally on April 14. Mohawk Towpath Byway Road Rally is a 60+/- mile game, tour, adventure (GTA) along the Mohawk and Hudson Valleys showcasing the importance the Erie and Champlain Canals routes played in the area’s history. Commemorating the history, heritage, and culture of the canals, the rally demonstrates the connectivity between recreation areas and communities and between waterways and land trails. The rally is planned and held under the supervision of the Mohawk-Hudson Region Sports Car Club of America. Registration opens at 9am, Driver/ Navigator meeting at 9:50am, first car off at 10:05am. Event has a three hour time limit followed by a catered lunch and awards ceremony in the barn at the Mabee Farm. Open to individuals and families of all ages, minimum entry must include a driver and a navigator. Each team will need the following: entry fee of $25, camera with digital display, internet access, and a GPS unit, or a smartphone or tablet with these capabilities. SARATOGA SPRINGS CITY COUNCIL MEETING: Saratoga Springs City Council meetings are regularly scheduled for 7 pm on the first and third Tuesday of every month at 474 Broadway in Saratoga Springs. Meetings are held in the Council Room at City Hall at this time. Meetings are open to the public, and admission into the room will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Check the meeting agenda for times of Public Hearings. The Ramp Door on the Broadway entrance to the building will be open for public access at 6:30 pm and earlier for special schedules. TRIVIA NIGHT FUNDRAISER: The Saratoga County History Center is hosting Trivia Night at historic Anne’s Washington Inn, 111 South Broadway Saratoga Springs, on Tuesday, April 16 from 6-9pm. This event, to support the programs of Brookside Museum, will include an Italian style buffet dinner generously provided by Mama Mia’s Restaurant, dessert, and coffee. A cash bar for beer and wine will be available to our guests age 21 and over. Doors open at 5:30PM, and dinner will begin at 6PM. Well-known local Trivia Night host Casey Blum, “That NY Trivia Guy” will open the friendly competition beginning at 7 pm. LVW PRESENTATION: The League of Women Voters of Saratoga County and the Unitarian Universalist Church in Saratoga Springs will hold a presentation about Medical Aid in Dying for New York, by David Pratt, MD, former Schenectady County Commissioner of Public Health Services. The program will be held on April 17th at 7:00 pm at Unitarian Universalist Church, 624 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs, and is open to the public.

ASTRONOMY CLUB MEETING: The next meeting of the Galway Public Library Astronomy Club will be held on Wednesday, April 17th from 6:30-7:30 pm. We will review our moon challenge results and photos taken during the solar eclipse. Michael Noonan will give a presentation on “Amateur Astro Photography,” and he will share photos of his comet and star tracking experiences. Teens and adults are welcome to join. BIRDING WORKSHOP: Join Mark Silo and John Loz from the Southern Adirondack Audubon Society as they present a Beginner Birding Workshop at the Galway Public Library, 2112 East Street, Galway, on Thursday, April 18 from 6-7 pm. FILM SCREENING: The Tang Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College announces “Framing the Flesh,” a series of films shown over three nights on March 28, April 4, and April 18 that explore our relationship with our bodies and unconventional bodily alterations. Presented in conjunction with the exhibition “Abject Anatomy,” the screening series is the capstone project by Piper Ingels ’24, the 2023-24 Meg Reitman Jacobs ’63 Endowed Intern at the Tang. These films contain material of a highly sensitive nature including language, nudity, violence, gore, and disturbing content. The screenings are free and open to the public. HISTORICAL LECTURE: Join the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation and the Saratoga Joinery on Thursday, April 18 at 7 pm for the in-person program, “On this Spot: 69 Caroline Street” for an in-depth look at the history of 69 Caroline Street. Carol Godette will discuss the various uses of the 1880s brick duplex, from its early functions to its newest iteration as Saratoga Joinery, a community woodworking space. This program is limited to 45 attendees. The program cost is $20 for SSPF and Joinery Members and $25 for Non-Members. Proceeds from this event will be shared between SSPF and Saratoga Joinery. THEATER PERFORMANCE: For two weekends starting on Friday, April 19th, Home Made Theater will present “The Humans” written by Stephan Karam. Winner of the 2016 Tony Award for Best Play, “The Humans” is filled with equal parts humor and hurt. UNDERWATER ROBOTICS WORKSHOPS: The Galway Public Library, 2112 East Street, Galway, is hosting a workshop series for teens in middle school and older titled Underwater SeaPerch Robotics. NATURE ON THE MOVE: On Mondays April 8 and April 22 at 10:30 am, Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park will be holding its bi-weekly Nature on the Move walks. These walks are led by one of Wilton Wildlife’s Environmental Educators and will take place on the NYS DEC’s Fox Parcel on April 8 and Old Gick Farm on April 22. These walks give participants an opportunity to get out on the trails with like-minded people and observe the beauty of nature in the spring. They are geared towards gentle exercise and are appropriate for adults at basic fitness levels. The group usually covers about 1.5 miles of trail. TRAIL STEWARD MEETING: At Moreau Lake State Park, 10am. A meeting to introduce the trail steward program to newcomers. The duties of a trail steward include walking the trails of Moreau Lake State Park to identify and report maintenance needs, light trail maintenance including cutting back branches with supplied hand saws and loppers and hanging trail signs when necessary. This meeting will provide crucial information on what to look for on the trails. Established trail stewards are welcome to come, but it is not mandatory. This meeting is free. AUTHOR TALK: Don Miller, author of “Masters of the Air: America’s Bomber Boys Who Fought the Air War Against Nazi Germany,” will be at the Spa Little Theater in Saratoga Springs on April 30 at 7 pm as part of the Saratoga Book Festival. Miller’s book is the inspiration behind the major Apple TV streaming series “Masters of the Air.” The one-hour book talk will include a short clip from a key scene of the Masters of the Air TV series and an audience Q&A, followed by a book signing. CHURCH CONCERT: Saratoga Chamber Players will honor the late Peter Schickele (1936-2024) on May 5 at 3PM at the Saratoga United Methodist Church. Schickele, known for his showmanship, his PDQ Bach recordings, but also for his serious compositions, wrote a rarely heard sextet to be performed by violinists Jill Levy and Lily Holgate, violists Sarah Adams and Michael Roth, and cellists Eric Bartlett and Ashley Bathgate.
