Gypsy Rose Blanchard allegedly grew fearful of ex-husband Ryan Anderson as their relationship dissolved, anticipating “he was going to hit her,” friends of Blanchard’s claim.
According to a source who spoke with People Magazine on Friday, there was an evening in which Anderson yelled at his then-wife, who became so scared she hid herself in the bathroom and called a relative to pick her up.
“He got in her face and screamed,” said Nadiya Vizier, a 22-year-old tattoo artist and close friend of Blanchard’s. “Gypsy said that she was afraid he was going to hit her. He didn’t — but that happened in the past with her mother. So, her first instinct was to tighten up and be prepared. But she got to safety and called her lawyer, too. Ryan is a big guy, and she told me it was really scary.”
Blanchard, 32, married Anderson while still behind bars in June 2022. She was serving an eight year prison sentence for pleading guilty to second-degree murder, admitting to having convinced then-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn to murder her mother, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard.
After being released just before the new year, Blanchard spent just three months with Anderson in person before her decision to file for divorce.
Vizier claimed Anderson had become more controlling over the course of her friend’s marriage.
“It was like she was on a leash,” Vizier told People. “What’s the difference between being locked in a prison cell and feeling locked in her own home and marriage? She didn’t want to put up with it anymore.”
Blanchard’s cousin Bobby Pitre also alleged Anderson’s intentions were not honest from the beginning.
“It wasn’t a genuine relationship,” Pitre said. “Ryan did it on a dare. He got in touch with Gypsy on a dare, and she took the bait, and it went from there.”
So far, there’s been no response from Anderson on the recent accusations.
In an interview from January, he told People that he and Blanchard “have always been very open and honest with each other.”
“Gypsy wants to be so honest that she’ll say things that hurt my feelings and vice versa … But also, one thing I love about us is after an argument, it’s done. We hold no resentment,” he said.
Earlier this week, Blanchard was seen getting matching tattoos with her former fiancé, Ken Urker, just days after it was announced she was splitting from Anderson.
During a TikTok Live on Wednesday, they clarified that they’re not back together, though they were photographed holding hands later that same day.
