Stephen Fernane: When waiting to see a doctor takes longer than flying to San Francisco, something is horribly wrong
UHK.
If you sat in your car for 16-hours before seeing a mechanic you wouldn’t say it was much of a garage, would you? If forced to wait the same time for a flight when going on holiday, you wouldn’t say it merited being called an airport. So why should people who are forced to wait excessive amounts of hours to see a doctor at University Hospital Kerry’s A&E feel disposed to call it a hospital?
I recently had the disastrous experience of attending A&E at UHK. Without doubt, it ranks as one of the harshest and most discomforting episodes an individual can go through. It flies in the face of what accident and emergency is meant to represent – prompt and efficient medical care at the point of contact.
