Everton would have been 17 points worse off if the Premier League's recommendation was taken.

The Toffees have been deducted two points for a second breach of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules, however, talkSPORT understands the Premier League recommended they be deducted five for the three-year period that ran until the 2022/23 season.

Premier League PSR rules allow clubs to lose £105million over the course of three years, but Everton were found to have exceeded this by £16.6million.

It is the second points deduction faced by Everton in just a few months, with Sean Dyche's side set to appeal the punishment.

The Merseysiders have already been handed a 10-point deduction for their first PSR rule break, however this was reduced to six points after an appeal.

That deduction was with regards to the three-year cycle ending in 2021/22, although the Premier League recommended a 12-point deduction for that.
