The Barstool Sports president bet on UConn to take home the title, making a $600,000 wager on the Huskies to win it all after the first two rounds of the tournament.
If UConn pulls through against Purdue on Monday night, Portnoy stands to make $2.16 million. You might wonder if, with the Huskies going up against Zach Edey and No. 1 Purdue, Portnoy might want to hedge his bet and guarantee himself a million-dollar payday.
Portnoy could hedge with a $500,000 bet on Purdue and take home $1.17 million regardless of who wins on Monday night. He reportedly told Bookies.com he has no plans to do so.
“No plans to hedge,” Portnoy reportedly said in a DM.
Why not?
“I thought they were a million times better than everybody else in the tournament,” Portnoy told Bookies.com. He may well be right. The Huskies have beaten teams by an average of 22.2 points per game so far in the NCAA Tournament.
UConn is a six-point favorite on Monday night.
