In a statement, Ms Sweeney’s family said: “Pauline Sweeney was our mother. She was the life and soul of every room she walked into.

“She was a strong woman who wouldn’t let anything bring her down.

“We’ll remember her with a tear in our eye and love in our hearts. Rest in peace. Love from your seven children.”

A spokesperson for West Midlands police said: “Our thoughts remain with Pauline’s loved ones at this distressing time and we’ll be doing all we can to support them.”

Monday’s funeral was attended by Ms Sweeney’s children and grandchildren along with her father, Michael and extended relatives.

Celebrant Fr Victor Samugana told the congregation in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Sligo that they were offering prayers to God on behalf of their departed sister, Pauline and were “commending her into the hands of God and asking God to bless her at this time and to give strength to her family.”

One of the Prayers of the Faithful read by Ms Sweeney’s children and grandchildren recited said: “You love us and always wanted us to be happy.”

Ms Sweeny’s son, Dave delivered a eulogy on behalf of the family in which he spoke about his beautiful mother who he said was now at peace with her late mother and brothers.

He said his mother was not only a mother but also a teacher and a friend.

“You were the best mother you could possibly be to us. You did everything you could for us.

“You were not just a mother to us all but a father too,” he said, adding that his mum had lived a beautiful life.
